Who Made More Money, Star Wars Or Marvel?
In 1977, Star Wars comics had their debut through being published by several publishers since the release of the Star Wars film franchise. And in the same year, Marvel Studios established its brand through a series of six-issue of comic adaptations of their film, followed by the release of 107 issues.
Until now, the supporters of both media franchises are still throwing dirt on each other. Eventually, the situation escalated to what is currently known to be the Marvel vs Starwars franchise war. And neither fans of the two parties are willing to surrender.
Given the influence of the two, it’s easy to say that they can earn a huge profit from their respective projects. But the real question is, who successfully stumped their competitor based on gross income?
The Force is with them
Every Star Wars fans are familiar with the quote “May the Force be with you,” and it seems like the Force has favored the franchise since the release of its works. It was recorded that they have earned an approximate revenue of $68.7 billion from the film that was created and directed by George Lucas in 1977.
The earnings were listed to be the sum from the sales of books, video games, TV, box office, and other merchandise. The books’ sales were reported to be $1.82 billion, while earnings of $5.01 billion came solely from video games.
Not only that, the success of the film has garnered them to earn a revenue of $280 million from TV, $10.316 billion from the box office, and an additional $42.217 in merchandise.
The results were said to be worthy of the $11 million that was spent on the production.
It was a great leap of faith for the creators, and little do they know that it was the start of something incredible.
Later on, an article by Forbes in 2007 has estimated that the franchise has earned a net worth of $3.6 billion; and it could even be possible that what they earned was over what is currently known.
