Pluton’s Fingers: Dikes and Siskiyou Geology
August 14 @ 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
$70.00What’s to like are dikes! Dikes are flattish bodies of rock that have cut through other rocks, vast molten blobs whose low density keeps us above sea level. Their magmatic fluids contributed to the formation of the earliest life, yet also helped kill most life billions of years later. Join us on serpentine road cuts, the Big Tree and Bigelow Lakes Trails , to see subalpine wildflowers, geobotany, and lava flows that have burst apart, remelted, and then been polished by a now vanished glacier. Ages 12+ welcome.
