Learn the basics of when, where, and how to backpack in this family-friendly course. We’ll cover preparation, gear, way-finding, considerations on-trail, setting up camp, Leave-No-Trace principles, minimizing risk/maximizing safety and dealing with emergencies. The course will be held over 3 days on two successive weekends. Gain a solid introduction during a Saturday in the classroom/outdoors at SFI, then continue learning and practicing skills on the ground during a short backpacking overnight the following weekend. Families/Kids 12+ encouraged! (Minors must be accompanied by a parent.)
