All are welcome to join for this introduction to the fascinating world of butterflies and how to identify them. SW Oregon local lepidopterist, Linda Kappen will feature 75 species that are found in the northern Cascade-Siskiyou region of SW Oregon. Participates will be eligible to become volunteers for the regional long-term monitoring effort to survey butterfly diversity with the “Cascade-Siskiyou Butterfly Monitoring Network.”

The neighboring Vesper Meadow Restoration Preserve and The Crest at Willow-Witt Ranch are hosting fun and fulling opportunities for volunteers to experience scenic locations and gain skills in restoration. Volunteer activities will vary from week to week and may include such activities as native seed collecting, noxious weed pulling, riparian shrub planting, wildlife monitoring, or mulching. Everyone is welcome to join this community-science survey while the flowers and pollinators are in full force at Vesper Meadow. Local pollinator enthusiasts from Pollinator Project Rogue Valley and Travis Owen will lead a bumble bee walk at the Vesper Meadow Restoration Preserve. We’ll learn the basics of native bumble bee identification and catch/release survey techniques, and contribute to the long term bumble bee survey at the Preserve.
