Lisa Loeb Keeps On Strumming
Apparently I am the only person who shelved Lisa Loeb to the 90s. Shame on me! In the process, I’ve missed out on a quarter-century of talent.
Loeb first jumped into the fray as a breakout star from the seminal 90s film “Reality Bites.” At the time, in a twist of fate somewhat art-mirroring-life, actor Ethan Hawke, the earnest and badass heart throb actor of “Singles,” in real life lived across the hall from her in NYC, and he helped link her into the movie—and Loeb’s single “Stay” played in the closing credits. The song got traction, as they say, and soon landed her #1 on the Billboard charts, an accomplishment particular exciting in that she also was the first artist to break into the Billboard 100 as an unsigned artist.
Flying past my radar screen, Loeb did not stop there: Since then, Loeb and her eternally pleasant music have appeared in various TV shows and movies, like “Gossip Girl” and “Hot Tub Time Machine 2,” and with five kid albums, including one winning her a Grammy as recently as 2018.
Well, apparently everyone but me.
