Schneider Museum of Art Opens for In-Person Viewing
April 6 @ 10:00 am - July 1 @ 4:00 pm
Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art is announcing its reopening and the opening of their latest exhibition Collecting Cuba: Selections from the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on view at the Schneider Museum of Art April 6 – July 1, 2021. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Ashland Independent Film Festival (AIFF) and curated by Jill Hartz.
The exhibition will explore contemporary Cuba art through three lenses: history, identity, and materiality. “In 2000, I organized my first visit to Cuba on behalf of the all-volunteer trip committee of the University of Virginia’s art museum, which I directed at that time,” said curator Jill Hartz. “I didn’t know what to expect, but something about the island’s people and their art affected me deeply. And now, for the first time, I have an opportunity to present a major exhibition drawn from the collection I developed while executive director (2008-2019) of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (JSMA) at the University of Oregon.”
Highlights from the Permanent Collection and Masterworks on Loan will also be on display in the Entry Gallery. Due to COVID-19 state regulations, there will be no opening reception. The Museum will be open to limited days and hours to accommodate extra cleaning and University furloughs. Museum hours will be Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is always free, but a $5 donation is suggested.
