Barnstormers Theatre Continues Saturday Workshop Series for

Theatre Artists

Barnstormers Theatre, Oregon’s longest continuously operating community
theatre, continues to fulfill its long-standing mission of providing entertainment and education
opportunities to Southern Oregon with the continuation of its popular theatre workshop series.
Workshops will be held 9:30 a.m. to noon on select Saturdays.
The theatre will offer A Crash Course for Stage Managers with Madeline DeCourcey on
Saturday, June 19 and Acting 101 with Denise Baker on Saturday, July 17. Registration is
limited to 12 participants for each workshop and the registration fee is $10. Classes are for
adults, ages 18 and up.
A Crash Course for Stage Managers explores the many layers and skills a stage manager needs
for a successful production. Interested participants who are creative, organized, enjoy
collaboration and are interested in the leadership roles in the theatre are encouraged to join this
course. Participants will gain vast insight into what to prepare for as a stage manager.
Madeline DeCourcey has worked in theatre and arts education for two decades. Raised in Grants
Pass, Madeline earned her BFA in Theatre Arts from Illinois Wesleyan University. She has
performed, directed and stage-managed multiple Barnstormers productions, including the recent
productions of “Revenge of the Space Pandas” and “The Pony Expresso.” DeCourcey is the
author of our resource manual for stage managers, and she serves as the director of the
Barnstormers Youth Summer Camp.
Acting 101 is the perfect introduction to acting for those who are curious but intimidated.
Participants will build their confidence as well as their acting skills in this fun, hands-on class.
This class will explore how to break down a scene, build a character, acting etiquette, and
auditioning tips. Students will apply their new skills in a short scene.
Denise Baker is a director, choreographer and actor originally from Minneapolis. Since moving
to Grants Pass, Denise has directed productions for the Clarion Theatre Company and
Barnstormers. Denise is the former Executive Director of Barnstormers, and looks forward to
returning to teach this Acting 101 class for adults who are new to the theatre.
