NMP Nature Center Community Programs

January 1 - April 30

Project FeederWatch
Help count birds that visit the feeders at North Mountain Park while learning to identify species with expert birders. This is a great opportunity for all-levels of birders to get acquainted with local species and mingle with other birders under the covered pavilion. The information collected will be submitted to Cornell University’s FeederWatch project, a nationwide citizen-science bird-monitoring effort. Bird watching takes place alternate Saturdays, November through March. Pre-registration is not required for this free program. WHO: Novice and experienced birders welcome

Preschool Puppet Theatre
Gather around and see what Brenda Bear and friends are up to this fall. A brief lesson will be followed by the puppet show and play time. A snack and related craft/activity will then be available. Enjoy a new show each month. Reservations are guaranteed only until 10:30 a.m. Please arrive early, as space and parking is limited (no late seating). WHAT: Learn about nature through stories, crafts and some unstructured playtime
INSTRUCTOR: Anna Edmonson is a New York City-trained actor/dancer/singer and has been a performing artist since age 6.

Winter Bird Walk
The winter season is a great time to see the birds that spend the winter in our valley. Stroll through North Mountain Park with expert birding volunteer Vince Zauskey and learn to identify birds by sight and sound. Participants should dress for cold weather and bring binoculars (some binoculars will be available to borrow). All levels welcome. Winter Ecology for Families
Discover the winter survival strategies of our native plants and animals! Through outdoor games and activities, parents and children (ages 8 and up) will experience winter from the perspectives of the creatures who live in our local habitats. INSTRUCTOR: JJ Janson has a BS in Environmental Studies from Keene State College in New Hampshire and is currently studying STEM Education at Southern Oregon University.
