David Gordon “Highlights” Concert

January 19 @ 1:00 pm

JACKSONVILLE, OR—Northwest Troubadour David Gordon returns on Sunday, January 19,
2020, with a special 75-minute “Story & Song Highlights” concert featuring some of the greatest
musical hits of the late 19 th Century culled from 112 vintage songs that David has shared during
36 concerts and four years of Historic Jacksonville, Inc.’s “Pioneer History in Story & Song”
series. This 75-minute program will be offered at 1:00 pm and repeated at 3:00 pm in the
Naversen Room of the Jacksonville Library, located at 340 West C Street in Jacksonville.
Tickets are $10 per person, with proceeds going to Historic Jacksonville, Inc.’s history programs
and preservation projects.
The “Pioneer History in Story & Song” series is based on historical and cultural themes of the
1800s and features songs popular in America between 1840 and 1880. Each song selected for
the “Highlights” concert has a memorable and carefully researched story. David interweaves the
songs with these fascinating historical tales and anecdotes, helping us connect with them and our
heritage. Guests will learn the surprising true stories of “My Old Kentucky Home,”
“Shenandoah,” and “Rock-A-Bye Baby.” They’ll hear two beloved Irish songs written by
Americans in the Midwest, and the poignant background of Abe Lincoln’s favorite song, “Home
Sweet Home.”
Due to the popularity of David’s performances and the intimacy of the Naversen Room venue,
space is limited and reservations are required. Tickets can now be purchased on-line at
www.historicjacksonville.org. Reservations and information are also available at 541-245-3650
and info@historicjacksonville.org.
David Gordon has been described by The Washington Post as “an irresistible performer,”
weaving a soothing musical tapestry of songs, irresistible vocals, gentle guitar stylings, stories,
musings, and his own unique brand of goofy humor. After a 40+ year career as an
internationally acclaimed classical tenor, David is now a resident of Jacksonville and exploring
his musical roots as singer, guitarist, historian, and storyteller. His combination of colorful
music and true stories ignites the imagination and brings life to history.
Selections from David’s four seasons of “Pioneer History in Story & Song” series can be heard
on his website, www.nwtroubadour.com. For additional information about David’s
“Highlights” concert, contact 541-245-3650 or info@historicjacksonville.org.
