Christmas, Contigo

November 18 @ 8:00 pm - December 31 @ 10:00 pm

$15 – $43

Christmas, Contigo Opens at the Oregon Cabaret on 11/18

The Cabaret show is opening a world premiere holiday play, Christmas, Contigo for the holiday season. The show, set in the Hialeah neighborhood of Miami, is penned by Carlos-Zenen Trujillo, a graduate of SOU and native of Bejucal, Cuba and Hillsboro, OR.

In the show, Iris Delgado Piñeira takes a trip back to her family home in Hialeah, except this year she’s bringing a surprise, her boyfriend and soon to be fiancé, Bryan, to meet her parents and her aging Abuela. In their preparation for a Noche Buena for the ages, the Delgado-Piñeiras reconnect and rediscover what it means to be home.

“Nochebuena is not just a celebration in Cuba, but across the world. It is a unifier between countries as distant as Guam and Guatemala, the Philippines and Peru,” says playwright Carlos-Zenen Trujillo. “For so many people it is an expression of solidarity and fraternity, crossing oceans and borders. Here in the US the preservation of traditions like Nochebuena have been so important to our identity as immigrants, and the assertion of our dignity and humanity in our adoptive home.”
