Building the Wall

January 17 - January 26

ACT is thrilled to announce the presentation of our first thriller: a mesmerizing two-person play by one of America’s top playwrights, Robert Schenkkan. BUILDING THE WALL is directed by Peter Alzado, artistic director of Oregon Stage Works. January 17th – 26th. Talkbacks follow the play.

There are six performances at The Black Swan Theatre on S. Pioneer Street. January 17 – 26, 2020. Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Staged Reading. Tickets are $18 and are available at Paddington Station, Grocery Outlet and online at www.ashlandcontemporarytheatre.org. Online tickets have reserved seats.

From the team that brought you RED and its exploration into the soul of an artist, BUILDING THE WALL is an exploration into the soul of an ordinary man caught up in a new Administration’s response to immigration in America. The setting: a federal prison in 2019. Shanique Scott, an award winning MFA graduate, plays Gloria, a history professor who travels hundreds of miles in an attempt to uncover a mystery. Veteran actor Jim Bowen again teams up with Peter Alzado in his portrayal of Rick, a man caught in the middle of powerful forces he has no control over; his only remaining resource is the force of his character. Together Gloria and Rick grapple with the “how” and the “why” of a man charged with solving a problem more thoroughly than anyone could have imagined.

Playwright Robert Schenkkan is the Tony Award winning author of “All the Way” about President Lyndon Johnson (which premiered at OSF) and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for “The Kentucky Cycle.”
