Clarion Theatre Company holds Auditions for Christmas Musical “Hatter’s Daughter”
Clarion Theatre Company announces auditions for its next musical, “Hatter’s Daughter,” a
Christmas-themed show to be staged November 26-28 at the Grants Pass Performing Arts
Center. Auditions are by appointment and will be held Friday, July 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 31, noon to 5 p.m. at New Hope Christian School, 5961 New Hope Rd., Grants Pass, 97527. Rehearsals will begin September 13. To read the script or book an audition, go to: ClarionOR.org.
“Hatter’s Daughter,” an original musical by local composer and playwright John Buckley
Sleadd, tells the heartwarming story of a Depression-era family that runs a local hat shop. The
title character, Radiana Topps, leads an effort to end dogfighting in her small town while
struggling with her self-worth and faith as an adopted daughter. The show affirms the love,
value, and life-giving nature of adoption.
The full-length two-act musical includes 16 songs of varied styles, including period jazz, a cast
of 20, and colorful hats of all shapes and sizes. There may even be a real canine or two.
The show’s production team includes director Denise Baker, music director Ron Strom and
choreographer Erica Bury.
Clarion Theatre Company exists “to glorify God through the gifts of storytelling, music, and
theatre.” The company previously staged two musicals by Sleadd, “The Prodigals” and “Here I
Stand,” and also has a vocal group, the Clarion Singers, that records original choral music.
Their recent music videos may be viewed on Facebook, Vimeo, and YouTube.
