Barnstormers Presents Shakespeare in the Park:
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
Barnstormers Theatre announces that tickets are now on sale for the first show in its 70th season, William Shakespeare’s comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The play, directed by Steven Sabel, will be performed in a special outdoor presentation at Reinhart Volunteer Park.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is William Shakespeare’s most popular and beloved comedy. The play weaves together multiple story lines, including four lovers who find themselves bewitched by woodland fairies, a troupe of rustic mechanicals and amateur actors who are rehearsing a play for the duke’s wedding, and the fantastical plights of the fairy king and queen.
Barnstormers has produced three Shakespeare plays in its 70-year history; however, the theatre has never performed “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” before now. The play lends itself perfectly to an outdoor setting, allowing Barnstormers to broaden its audience potential by performing at the expansive Harry and David Shelter at Reinhart Volunteer Park.
“The Shakespeare in the Park idea began as a response to the COVID-19 restrictions that have been placed on the theatre over the past year and a half” said Executive Director Annie Sabel. “As plans for this play unfold and restrictions lift, we are realizing how ideal this play is for kicking off season 70, which is a season of six plays that have never been done before on the Barnstormers stage.”
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will perform Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Aug 13-28. Tickets are now on sale in groups of 4 for $60, and can be purchased online at www.barnstormersgp.com. For ticket purchasing assistance, please call the box office at (541) 479-3557. Audience members will reserve their own space at the park, and are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Limited table and chair seating will be available for an additional fee, please call the box office to request table and chair reservations.
“This Shakespeare in the Park presentation is a perfect homage to Barnstormers roots, since some of the first Barnstormers productions began at Riverside Park almost 70 years ago,” Sabel said. “At the same time, Shakespeare in the Park represents Barnstormers’ progression into the future, since this will be the theatre’s first outdoor Shakespeare play. We hope that this is the beginning of a community event that will continue for many years to come.”
Barnstormers Theatre invites patrons to join a celebration of 70 years of community theatre in the Southern Oregon region, and the theatre’s comeback from COVID-19 restrictions. Season subscriptions for the other plays in the theatre’s 2021-2022 season be purchased online or by calling the box office.
