BEST VITAMIN/HERB SHOP:
Natural Grocers
Okay, so not really a local company (owned by Vitamin Cottage out of Colorado), but Natural Grocers in Medford has some of the best deals on vitamins, supplements and groceries. This is partly due to the fact that they are a national chain, though they are no Wal Mart. As evidenced by their Community Education Room in their store, NG offers classes, recipes and information on how to sustain oneself in a healthy way, without breaking the bank. And most specifically in their vitamin department, the selections are offered by topic, not brand, as with many retail stores, which gives the shopper the ease of comparison and selection. All of their produce is organic and they are bag-free. Founded in 1955, they were green before it was cool to be green.
Though known widely as a marijuana dispensary, honorable mention went to Breeze Botanicals in Ashland, which also carries a wide array of herbs and locally produced goods—from Echinacea to dog treats. SARA JANE WILTERMOOD
