In Rogue Community College’s Design + Digital Media program, students not only cultivate and learn about the art of design, they also have the opportunity to connect with local businesses.

Wednesday, June 12, the Annual Portfolio Show will kick off at 10 am with guest speaker presentations in HEC Presentation Hall. Coordinator of the program and event Heidi Harless says, “Creative, local business professionals present their work and discuss topics such as: best professional practices, networking and making yourself visible, expanding your technical skills, etc.”

Harless has been with these students since they entered the program. She’s seen their progression as artists and graphic designers and helps them work on their final portfolios for this event. She says the Annual Portfolio Show “is also a superior opportunity for business leaders to meet local talent and arrange interviews for open employment and internship positions!”

After presentations and lunch, students will display their portfolios for local business owners and professionals to view from one to 4:30 pm. “The Annual Portfolio Day showcases a culmination of our talented students’ efforts as they have been working for over two years in the Design + Digital Media program,” she says. “This is an excellent opportunity for graduates to learn from the creative experts and business leaders in our region, about what it takes to be successful.”

Students’ work ranges from a variety of graphic art, from logo-examples to beautiful signs bearing uplifting messages. Everything shown represents each student’s work throughout their time in the Program.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all of these talented students and their creative projects,” says Harless. “I know how hard they have worked for this event, and it shows the evolution and growth of their two years in our program. I’m so proud of each of them for this accomplishment.”

By the end of the event, students might walk away with a promising business connection or an employment opportunity. Overall, the event is a chance for the public to appreciate students’ work.
