With spring weather finally here, people are itching to get outside and enjoy it. But if you find yourself doing the same outdoor activities every spring, you may be looking for something new to do. So here are a few simple ways to enjoy the outdoors this spring.

Go on a Hike

One of the best ways to get out into nature is to go on a hike! In fact, hiking was the fourth most popular outdoor activity in the U.S. in 2017. You probably have some hiking trails in your area, especially if you live by a local or national park. Hiking is great because you don’t need to be at a certain skill level to enjoy it. There are certainly more advanced trails that you may want to avoid at first, but there are plenty of easy trails, too. If you’re going to adventure into a more moderate trail, you should ensure you have the right kind of shoes on and always bring some water with you. And don’t forget sunscreen — even if it’s cloudy or a trail covered by trees, you can still get sunburn. So grab your hiking shoes, some friends, or even your dog, and hit the trails.

Play Some Sports

Playing sports is the perfect way to get outside and have some fun. The spring sports season is full of new sports you can try — baseball, lacrosse, volleyball, tennis, and so many more sports pick up again as the spring season starts. And sports aren’t just fun, they’re a great way to get exercise too. Did you know that if you play tennis for just 30 minutes, you can burn between 169 and 208 calories? So if you’re looking for a way to enjoy the nice weather and get a good workout in, consider trying a new sport. You can join a local league or just grab some friends to play with.

If you’re heading outdoors as a family, remember to role model healthy habits for your kids. Before young people play an active sport like soccer, backpacking, or cycling, they should warm up with five to 10 minutes of stretching and light aerobic activity.

Have a Picnic

If you’re looking for a way to enjoy the spring weather that requires less doing and more sitting, then you should have a picnic. The best thing about picnics is that you can have one literally anywhere — whether it’s at a local park, at work, or even in your own backyard, there are endless picnic locations. Having a picnic is a great opportunity to enjoy seasonal foods, too. Fresh fruits and veggies always make great picnic snacks, but you can really eat whatever you want to! So grab a blanket or some towels, some of your favorite foods, and enjoy a nice meal outside, soaking up the sunshine.

The nice, mild spring weather only lasts a short while before hot summer days are here — so try one of these activities and enjoy the outdoors!
