Cross-stitching, or at least a form of cross-stitching, has been around since the sixth century! I wonder if the Egyptians created quilts that depicted portions of their family histories? At the June quilt and genealogy talk, guest speaker Mary Anne Carson talks about original blocks on two quilts, quilts that combine cross-stitch embroidery with quilt making, and with family history.  One of the quilts features the family of Union and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War.
