Tired of being inside all the time? Going a bit stir-crazy? Need some fresh air with your meals. Rainy, dark winter months don’t need to mean eating indoors. Check out these local restaurants with heated patios.

Bella Union: Originally one of seven saloons in Jacksonville, the restaurant now serves multiple purposes from its casual dining rooms to its more extravagant ball room upstairs. A colorful history haunts the establishment, one filled with migration for the gold rush, gambling, shootings, fire, and a love triangle. Thursdays are “Oysters and Ales” nights, featuring a different brewery each week with $3 pints, and $1 oysters prepared on the B.B.Q. in-house. Thursday-Sunday also features live music. 11:30 am – 10 pm, Mon. – Sat., 10 am – 10 pm, Sun., 170 W. California Street, Jacksonville

Pump House Burgers and Brews: An excellent lunch spot any time of year, the restaurant serves an array of comfort food with an ethnic twist like the Greek gyros or the Jamaican jerk chicken quesadilla. For a splash of summer, try a specialty cocktail like the Peach Donkey made with ginger-infused peach vodka, peach nectar, ginger ale and fresh lime.  They also have rotating beer, cider, wine and kombucha selections. 11 am – 10 pm, daily, 102 Talent Ave., Talent

Gil’s and Ruby’s: Actually two different establishments, they are side-by-side and under the same ownership. Gil’s has firepits, heaters, pub fare and a nice selection of wine and beer on tap, as well as a fridge stocked with bottles available—to drink there or take with you. Not to disregard Gil’s Cubano sandwich, but Ruby’s is the place to eat. The breakfast burritos are good fuel for outdoor enthusiasts before an adventure, and Ruby’s sources their produce and breads locally, and makes all their baked goods in-house, as well as vegan cheese. Order at either eatery, grab a beer and claim a seat next to a firepit. Servers will bring orders to both patios.  Ruby’s, 7 am – 6 pm, daily, 163 N. Pioneer St., Ashland; Gil’s, 11 am 9 pm, daily, 175 N. Pioneer Street, Ashland
