Celebrate more than 50 years of the pop-folk-rock group that defined an era, as Camelot Theatre presents Spotlight On The Mamas & The Papas.
Founded in 1965, The Mamas & The Papas were a Canadian-American folk rock vocal group that was a defining force in the counter-culture music scene. With their signature intricate harmonies and mix of male and female voices, The Mamas & The Papas bridged the folk-rock sound of the 1960s with a softer pop sound that instantly endeared the legendary foursome to audiences of all ages.
They released five studio albums and seventeen singles, six of which made the Billboard Top Ten, selling close to forty million records worldwide. The performance includes songs like “California Dreamin’”, “Dedicated to the One I Love”, “Monday, Monday”, and “Words of Love”, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Bring your headband and your tie-dyed shirt and rock out to the sounds of the 60s!
Spotlight on The Mamas & The Papas is Directed by Kristen Calvin and Gwen Overland, with music arrangements and Direction by Gwen Overland, set design by Artistic Director Shawn Ramagos, costumes by Sarah Buck, and script by Kristen Calvin. The production stars the vocal talents of Kristen Calvin (as Cass Elliott, 8/8-18), Erik Connolly (Denny Doherty), Robbie Dacosta (John Phillips), Mia Gaskin (Michelle Phillips) and Rose Passione (Cass Elliott, 8/22 – 9/1). Musicians will be Robbie Dacosta (guitar), Eric Jones (bass), Tom Stamper (drums), and Scott Soltermann (keyboard). Wigs by Virginia Carol Hudson.
