SOU to Host “Play Like a Girl” Night at the AHS Gymnasium
February 13, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
In honor and celebration of women and girls in sports, Southern Oregon University will host “Play Like a Girl” night Saturday, Feb. 13, during the Raider women’s home game against Eastern Oregon University. EOU is responsible for the only blemish on the Raider women’s record thus far this season, after beating the Raiders 75-69 on Jan. 16 in La Grande.
“Play Like a Girl” night is being conducted in support of the #playlikeagirl online campaign, which seeks to dispel the notion that playing like a girl is an insult. The Raider women want to show all their fans—particularly young girls in the Rogue Valley—exactly what it means to play like a girl! All women and girls 18 years of age and younger will receive free admission to the Feb. 13 game, and fans will have an opportunity to meet the team following the game.
“We hope a lot of families in Southern Oregon will come out to the game and show their sons and daughters what it truly means to play like a girl,” said SOU President Roy Saigo. “We want to help inspire the next generation of girls in the Rogue Valley to pursue their dreams.”
The game will also feature a ceremony honoring the SOU women’s cross country and volleyball teams, both of which advanced to the NAIA championships last fall.
Attendees can also win SOU Raider gear by joining the #playlikeagirl campaign by tweeting the hashtag #playlikeagirl to @souashland during the game.
