Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Musical Radio Play
November 21, 2019 - December 31, 2019$29 – $43
Running from November 21st to December 31st, Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Musical Radio Play is adapted from Jon Lorenz’ 1947 Lux Radio Broadcast of the classic Christmas story.
When a department store Santa claims he’s the real Kris Kringle, his case gets taken all the way to the Supreme Court and a little girl’s belief makes the difference in the ‘miracle.’ With live Foley effects and a score of holiday carols performed live on stage, Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Musical Radio Play is a unique holiday theatre treat. “The dual task of entertaining a live studio audience and an imaginary radio audience was an incredible challenge,” says director Galloway Stevens of researching classic radio broadcasts of the era. “The craft of Foley art – which helps set the scenic atmosphere – was much like watching a ballet with both eyes and ears. My team has really immersed themselves into this medium – of conveying a solid story for anyone listening “over the air” while also providing a riveting performance to our live ‘studio’ audience.”
Miracle contains original music, some musical radio jingles and jazzy versions of holiday favorites like Deck the Halls, Good King Wenceslas, and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.
Miracle on 34th Street stars Oregon Shakespeare and Oregon Cabaret favorite Michael Hume as Kris Kringle. Katie Beck (9 to 5, Every Christmas Story, The 39 Steps, What a Glorious Feeling) returns as Doris, Jake Delaney (9 to 5, Chicago, Mamma Mia, Rocky Horror 2019) returns as Fred, and Alex Boyles (Rocky Horror, Avenue Q, Mamma Mia!) returns as the male character actor in the piece. Jocelyn Smith and Cameron Weiland will make their Cabaret debuts and split the role of Susan. Courtney Crawford (female character actor) and Andy Hudson (pianist/Foley artist) also appear in their first Oregon Cabaret show.
