Jarabe Mexicano at OSF Green Show
September 12 @ 6:45 pm - 7:30 pm
Bridging the borders between generations and cultures through music.
Bursting onto the Latin music scene with extraordinary momentum, Jarabe Mexicano is committed to honoring the past while embracing the future. True to their name, the group performs a mixture of traditional as well as popular genres. Their renditions of classic Rancheras, Huapangos, Sones, and Boleros fill their listeners with romantic nostalgia while their dynamic arrangements of Cumbia, Reggae, and Rock & Roll hits bring people to their feet. The irresistible synergy between lead vocalist Gustavo Alcoser, Mario Eguía on requinto, Kevin Lomes on vihuela, Alejandro Tapia on percussion and guitar, and Carlos Arrellano on guitarrón attracts wide audiences. As trained educators, members of Jarabe Mexicano have also established strong ties to local community organizations including the City Heights Music School, the Road Scholar Senior Education program, and other arts programs throughout San Diego. In 2016, Jarabe Mexicano completed a month-long, summer tour of the Southwest and showcased at the Western Arts Alliance conference in Los Angeles before embarking on an educational outreach tour of Baja California Sur as bicultural ambassadors – a project sponsored by the U.S. Consulate in Mexico. While there, they represented the United States in the 10th Annual International Arts and Culture Festival for Peace in La Paz. This year, the group showcased at the Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) conference in New York City as well as at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) expo in Anaheim. Throughout the year, Jarabe will also conduct artist residencies at the Guadalupe School of Salt Lake City, the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, and at the Latino Arts String Program (LASP) of Milwaukee.
