Corey Kahn: Blueprints
September 25 – November 15, 2019
Blueprints is a painting series by Corey Kahn exploring life and death complexities. The abstracted landscapes are inspired by foreign locations and the experience of the human condition. We look to understand all the different parts and happenings in life, especially in hardships. Likewise, art represents the nature of life with many pieces, drawings, seemingly disconnected parts making sense in a new harmony, fragmented and yet together.
A blueprint, a solid plan it would seem, but plans in life are simply an impression, a goal, as things often change, derail, fragment into something new.
Corey Kahn was introduced to emergency medicine, while working in the department of psychiatry at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The chaos in the ER mirrored the images and emotions being expressed in the art work. The bridge to medicine was a natural extension from her art work, and fit perfectly her desire to help others, in any situation. Medical school and emergency medicine residency training followed. She currently works as an Artist and Emergency Physician in Southern Oregon, with an interest in international medicine, disaster relief work, hospice, abstract painting and their connection to the expression of life and death experience.
