Billy Elliot at Camelot Theatre
September 18 - October 13$30 – $38
The international smash-hit musical Billy Elliot makes its regional premiere at Camelot Theatre on September 18 – October 13, 2019.
Lauded as “A triumph! The #1 show of the year!” by Time Magazine and “Thrilling! Impossible to resist!” by The New York Times, Billy Elliot follows a young boy as he trades in his boxing gloves for dancing shoes. In an unforgettable story set in a small mining town in the English countryside, set amid the 1984 riots between the British miners and the government. A dance teacher finds a diamond in the rough when she discovers Billy—a young boy with a passion for dance who inspires the entire community. The musical phenomenon is set to an explosive score by Elton John, celebrating Billy’s journey against the odds to make his dreams come true.
Billy Elliot is directed by Shawn Ramagos, with orchestrations by Martin Koch. One of the most celebrated musicals on Broadway and London’s West End, Billy Elliot has been dazzling audiences since 2005. The production is the winner of 10 Tony Awards and 10 Drama Desk Awards, including Best Musical. The production features a score by Elton John with book and lyrics by Lee Hall, who wrote the screenplay for the Academy Award-nominated film that inspired the musical.
“My interest and fascination with the show started after seeing the North America tour in Boston. I was taken by the piece, not just because of the incredible and talented young dancers in the show, but because of the brilliant writing and story,” says Director Shawn Ramagos. “We were lucky enough to find two outstanding dancers – brothers, who share the role of Billy, and other incredible young dancers to fill out the production. They are sure to impress.”
After an extensive search, Camelot is pleased to announce that the title role of “Billy” will be played by two very talented brothers, Corban and Eli Foster. “After months of rehearsals we’ve succeeded with the impossible task of performing the role of a young boy whose dance ability leaves one breathless,” states Melanie Marie, Choreographer for the show. “The dancers have worked for months, honing skills in ballet and tap – it’s amazing and truly beautiful work.” Melanie also stars as Mrs. Wilkinson and Dominic Walsch plays Michael, Billy’s best friend.
Rounding out the cast are Max Bruhn, Ava Code, Jackson Deal, Becky Durango, Izzy and Madeleine Fichera, Haven Foster, Catherine Hansen, Mark Jackson, Theo Janeway, Chris Hatfield, Adam Kilgore Holly Laney, Todd Lowenberg, Kerry Lynch, Aria Risling, David Alonso Rodriguez, Erny Rosales, Derek Rosenlund, Jessi Shieman, Emily Sullivan and Ash Williams.
